Welcome to the NEW school year! We want to extend a very warm, third grade welcome to Mrs. Tracie Hamilton who has joined our third grade staff! We also welcome Mrs. Adams and Ms. Wilhelm who are our student interns who are working with Ms. Copley and Mrs. Tashner.
Third Grade Language Arts
Your child is REQUIRED to read for at least 15 minutes every night! Please RECORD how many minutes your child reads in the planner.
Reading for extended periods of time is the BEST way to help your child pass the Reading SOL in June. Help your child to BUILD their vocabulary by pointing out new words and discussing their meanings. Discuss the DETAILS of what your child is reading. Ask questions like:
Who is/are the MAIN character(s)?
Who are the MINOR characters?
WHY did the character behave in they did?
Where and what time of year does the story take place?
What is the PROBLEM in the story? How is the problem SOLVED?

Third Grade Social Studies

Know the physical and human characteristics of Greece, Rome, and Mali. Understand economic specialization and economic interdependence.
